Rising Point Capital | Chicago, IL | Full-Time

About Rising Point Capital
Rising Point Capital is a Chicago-based lower-middle-market private equity firm partnering with founders and leadership teams to help strong businesses grow into market leaders. The firm provides more than capital, offering strategic guidance, industry expertise, resources, and a collaborative approach to help companies scale while preserving the foundation that made them successful.

Rising Point primarily makes majority investments in established, founder-, family-, and management-owned U.S. businesses, generally targeting lower-middle market companies. Key focus areas include industrial services, energy and infrastructure services, environmental and waste, value-added distribution, commercial services, and home services.

About the Role
The Director of Business Development will be a key member of Rising Point Capital’s deal origination team, supporting senior professionals in identifying investment themes, sourcing acquisition targets, and developing proprietary deal flow. The role sits at the top of the deal-sourcing funnel and combines market research, relationship development, creative outreach, and strategic analysis.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, low-ego team player who thinks critically, communicates effectively, manages multiple priorities, and is excited to continuously improve the firm’s sourcing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with investment bankers, intermediaries, advisors, and industry contacts.
  • Conduct market mapping and build proprietary target lists using CRM and AI-powered sourcing tools.
  • Develop and execute creative outbound campaigns to engage business owners, founders, intermediaries, and other decision-makers.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, transactions, and macroeconomic factors to identify investment opportunities.
  • Attend and help identify relevant conferences, trade shows, and networking opportunities; proactively develop relationships and schedule meetings.
  • Drive weekly deal-flow discussions, providing research-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, platforms, and automation tools to improve sourcing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conduct preliminary desktop diligence on target companies and synthesize findings into actionable investment summaries.
  • Prepare briefing materials for senior professionals meeting with founders, intermediaries, and advisors.
  • Travel as required to support business development and industry relationship-building efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field preferred.
  • 6–8 years of experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate development, consulting, sales, or a related field.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial self-starter who can operate with minimal direction.
  • Strong analytical, research, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills, including confidence engaging with senior executives.
  • Collaborative, team-first mindset with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Genuine intellectual curiosity, passion, and desire to build a long-term career in private equity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, CRM systems, and an ability to quickly adopt new technology.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits, including performance-based bonuses, 401(k), and health insurance.
  • Performance-driven, entrepreneurial culture that rewards initiative, effort, and results.
  • Broad exposure to businesses and investment opportunities across multiple industrial and business services sectors.
  • Opportunity to play a meaningful role in building the firm’s proprietary deal-sourcing capabilities and long-term growth.
  • Significant opportunities for professional development and career advancement at a growth-oriented private equity firm.
